uhhhhhh

your beats are insane dude. Its not the modulated basses, its how you put them together with the rest of the song. If this was used for a game or flash or whatever, this is freakin perfect and nothing could beat it. Its amazing how good this.

The only problem is when you want to get into "listening" music. If thats what you were going for, then a stronger melody is definately needed. For this one, a clear cut synth with a nice melody with this to back it up would be good.

But if you were going for a little more background music, then this is so great. The percussion is just so great. 10/10

SteakJohnson responds:

hah thanks I always was good with percussion. I guess it is more backgroundy type music, and im still tryin out your melody on my other song! thx for that too.

very good start

very nice sampling. very clean, very nice intro.

this all seems like an intro. there needs to be more of a melody to keep interest ;) its great beat and construction tho.

keep up the good work

SteakJohnson responds:

thanks for the melody idea! Also im thinking of extending the intro a bit because i think it should have more of an epic drop rather than just goin into kicks n snares, but yea again thanks!

good but...

the melody is really cool. gives you a videogame/8-bit feeling to it, with a solid beat to it. what was disappointing for me though, is that the bass was not sharp enough. i would have liked it if the bass had higher volume on the higher frequencies. Maybe not to get a house-sounding track, but otherwise it does not seem as much trance. ya know? more miscellaneous.

definately nice, just not for straight listening. more for ambient game music. so therefore it depends on the game.

but it does sound very balanced and professional. so ima give a 10 for what it is ;)

Submergence responds:

You like high bass eh? Well most trance is built around melodies and the bass just falls in behind to keep it moving. Sorry to disappoint you. Thanks for taking the time to review. Be sure to check out our other tracks!

2:50

i think theres a bit too much lyrics for my tastes but i like the one at 2:50 the most. most professional and interesting in my opinion. little weird atm though :o

Darren-M responds:

hmm maybe i should spread out the vocals some. yeah it is kind of a weird song.

thanks for the review, ill consider that song as well

heh really thought it was a joke though

pretty good

it is pretty good. for my personal tastes i like the melody of this version better than the original. The only complaints about this one however is that there is a little too much reverb for ambience, and how it is missing a little bit of treble. Its good that it is limited, but the percussion seems so drawn out here(unfortunately).

So, I like the melody more, but it doesnt sound as good sound quality-wise to me. Hopefully my critique is helpful. Im trying to give as helpful feedback as i can ;)

Anima-Theory responds:

The remastered version I've done is A LOT better, I've fixed the problems you talked about.

Thanks for the review :D

disgusting

very unique. very good use of samples and melody. This is really really really good work. yes it is weird, but it flows amazingly well. worth a download. I think people just think this is a weird kind of song, and which is why it is not ranked as high as it should be. better made than a lot of higher ranked material. ;)

Darren-M responds:

i knew i had to step my game up to place in this comp, so i had to loosen the laces on this one. i usually make weird trance styles, so i tried alot to bring a few trance style composition tactics into a D&B... i think thats what made it.

thanks for the review

doesnt sound very energetic

the intro is fine, but keeping those short stabs just seems very anti climatic. It does build to a nice dance beat, but I think the 3:20 part should be first and with harmony. it would make it sound much more intense.

The new instrument is pretty cool to add a new element to the song. I think the rest of it is good, except for the no melody part.

Also, this reminds me of cornandbean's halo 3 remix. :o but his isnt dance.

Blizzaine responds:

There's no such thing as "dance"

It's a genre taken up by newgrounders to describe happy hardcore.

Dance means music you can dance to, and if anything, his is much easier to dance to than something like this at such a fast BPM

But yea, his is more of a hard trance song, This is indeed happy hardcore.

Thanks for the review!

pretty good

I think the rough bass sounds really good. The percussion is also done very well. Good samples. The very beginning intro and the outro are amazing(1:30-2).

The issue I have with the song is the piano. It sounds pretty good, and sounds like it is a main part of the song. I think the melody could use some work though, because right now it sounds like it belongs in the background. Melodies like that (at least for me) are pretty hard to make. Like at 1:20, that part the melody needs to be really cathy and rich. I usually tend to redo melodies two or three times or more. It gets annoying to me sometimes, but I replay the song in my head and make up different notes in it. really harmonize it. I think sometimes you had the dynamics in the wrong spots. And finally I would cut the piano from :43 to :56.5 personally. (but sometimes it is good to have a break in the main part). hopefully im helpful lol.

Aside from that, theres only a few occassions where i thought there should add some sort of harmony aspect to it(breif moments). otherwise the song is killer.

and fyi this sounds more professional than any of my work.

SteakJohnson responds:

hey I really appreciate your review, and yea i def need to improve on the melodies in this, the samples i sorta made my self by combining some other samples and i got lucky. I will try doing what your saying with regards to the piano and ill be sure to check out some more of your songs, and yes your review was very much helpful

couldve been better!!!!

great melody to start, great intro, and great voice!

but theres a big problem that prevented this from being a 10/10. The voice was really great, but the background synth gate was very UNIFORM. Same melody for it. If only in the second half, it would keep the same voice, but around 1:55 or even 1:30, the gate would drop to a lower note then rise back up to give it some emphasis and harmony. It would be that much better!

Still pretty good, but to repetative for me because it is so uniform.

ElectricalBypass responds:

Let me see if it works out. Thanks for the review though! I will see if I can do anything about the background synth. I kind of have it the same because I want it to give its sound for the rest of the song (to keep the theme song tune in the head)

This was the song I was thinking of though for some reason when I was making it

Sounds similar and I didn't even know it :P

Thanks for the review. I will take that into consideration.

pretty cool

its pretty good, but agree with some of the previous comments. but i will give a reason why.

it is short i agree. that doesnt mean its bad, but for a SONG, it does seem short. I would consider this closer to a loop because it is repetative and short.

i think the sound of it sounds pretty good though. nice ambient style of synth. what would make this song much much better is if yes, it was longer, but if it opened up a little before the 1:00. Fade in the synths to get brighter and maybe drop the background synth there or a little later from a C to a G#. try it! itll make it interesting and epic. :D thats my preference though. but i do believe it would get better ratings.

good for background music, but it just feels like it should open up imo.

photosyntesen responds:

okay i might try that thanks for the review :)
